Where your data goes when you chat with Digby

Privacy claims are easy to make. Here is what actually happens to a message, from the moment you press send to the moment you delete it.

01
You press send
Your message travels from your browser or app to Digby over an encrypted HTTPS connection, to servers in Montréal (the Canada Central region).
02
Digby gathers the context it needs
To answer well, Digby adds the recent conversation, any memory facts relevant to the question, and — if you’re in a project — that project’s instructions and the passages from its documents that match. All of that is stored with your account in Canada.
03
A model writes the answer
Digby decides how much work the question needs and sends the conversation to a custom-tuned open-weight model running on hardware in Canada. The model receives what it needs to answer — never your password or account credentials.
For contested or high-stakes questions, a second model reviews the answer; for research, several models work in parallel. They run on Canadian hardware too — and so do the models that search your documents and read your images.
Your message is used to answer you, and that is all: Digby never uses your conversations, memory or files to train or fine-tune AI models.

What can leave Canada — and when
- 01
Web search
when an answer needs current facts, the search query (a few words, not your whole conversation) goes to a search service, and the pages Digby reads are fetched from the public web.
- 02
Connected apps
if you connect Gmail, Slack or another app, Digby talks to that app on your behalf, and that app’s own privacy terms apply.
- 03
Site analytics
the website uses Google and Meta measurement tags for page views and sign-ups, as the privacy policy describes. Digby Kids is never tracked.
05
The answer is saved — to your history
The conversation is saved to your account in Canada so you can come back to it. If you shared a durable fact (“I’m vegetarian”, “we’re a team of 12”), Digby may save it to your memory so it can use it next time.
Guests without an account keep their history in the browser they used; the server keeps a short-lived working copy in Canada for up to 24 hours so the conversation can continue.
06
You stay in control
- 01
See it
Settings → Memory lists every fact Digby has saved about you.
- 02
Change it
edit or delete any memory fact, or clear them all.
- 03
Delete it
remove a single conversation, or ask for your whole account to be deleted.
- 04
Share it only on purpose
a share link is read-only and can be revoked.
Frequently asked questions
Does Digby send my conversation to a search engine?
No. When a search is needed, Digby sends a short search query, not your conversation.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Digby never uses your conversations, memory or uploaded files to train or fine-tune AI models.
Can Digby employees read my chats?
Your chats are tied to your account and are not visible to other users unless you share them. See the privacy policy for how data is handled and secured.
What about guests?
Guest history is kept in the browser that started it, with a short-lived working copy on the server in Canada for up to 24 hours. Create a free account to keep conversations across devices.
