Digby vs Cohere North

Both are Canadian, and both take data control seriously. North is an enterprise platform you deploy; Digby is an assistant anyone can open today — that can also be self-hosted.

Two kinds of sovereignty

Cohere North is built to be deployed inside an organisation’s own environment — on-premises, in a private cloud, even fully air-gapped — where Cohere says the data is never accessible to Cohere. It is sold to enterprises and governments; the Government of Canada signed a partnership with Cohere in 2025.

Digby gives anyone a Canadian-hosted assistant straight away: conversations stored in Canada, answers from models on Canadian hardware, and a self-hosted path for organisations that need the whole stack on their own servers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cohere Canadian?

Yes. Cohere is headquartered in Toronto. Digby is also built in Canada.

Can I try Cohere North myself?

North is sold to organisations through Cohere’s sales team. Digby is free to try at digby.ai without an account.

Which is more private?

Both can keep data under your control: North through private deployment inside your own environment, Digby through Canadian hosting by default and self-hosting for organisations that need it. The better fit depends on who will use it and how much infrastructure you want to run.
